John McNeal (Director) and Dee L. Rivard (ES, TBI Fund, & Deaf Sign Request Administrator),

Please accept this as my closing letter for funding my SPECT Scan to help identify areas of my brain that were recently damaged due to a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The SPECT Scans and report from the Amen Clinic are also included in the email with this closing letter. The scans did identify numerous areas of my brain which were damaged. This was not seen on any previous tests to include: CT Scan; MRI; BrainScope. The scans were completed on 28FEB-1MAR, however I did not receive my doctor’s assessment of the scan until I met with him on 7APR.

Dr. Vincent Schaller of the Mid-Atlantic Concussion Alliance determined the damaged areas of my brain may explain why I still get episodes of dizziness when I am concentrating or am pushing myself with work. As a result of the scans, his recommendation is that I could benefit from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). This new therapy would enhance overall blood flow to the brain, specifically the cerebellum, to overcome the dizziness. His office is currently coordinating with my health insurance company to determine if they will cover the expenses of HBOT. Dr. Schaller also recommends that my physical therapy routine continues with vestibular and balance exercises at least 4 times per week.

Over the past couple of months, I have been making progress to getting back to work full time. I’m currently working 30-35 hours per week while balancing my home life being a father to 3 boys. I hope the continuation of the physical therapy combined with HBOT helps me recover quickly so I can get back to normal.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to receive the SPECT Scans and I hope you continue to consider funding them for future people with TBIs.

Sincerely,
Jeremy
