This page provides information and resources for school professionals including teachers, counselors, and school nurses. Links will provide access to downloadable fact sheets, classroom tips, and online training.


CDC Pediatric mTBI Guideline was developed through a rigorous process guided by the American Academy of Neurology and 2010 National Academy of Sciences methodologies. An extensive review of scientific literature, spanning 25 years of research, formed the basis of the Guideline.

HEADS UP to Schools: School Nurses – This website provides downloadable schools materials to keep on hand for dissemination to other school staff including a Fact Sheet for School Nurses, Concussion Signs and Symptoms Checklist, Concussion Signs & Symptoms Card, Fact Sheet for Teachers, Counselors, and School Professionals, in English and Spanish. Also available for download are handouts on Classroom Tips for Teachers Helping Students Recover from a Concussion, Returning to School After a Concussion Fact Sheet for School Professionals, and Concussion Recognition and Response for people with Intellectual Disabilities.

Online Concussion Training for School Professionals – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) HEADS UP to Schools: Online Concussion Training for School Professionals is designed to help classroom teachers (grades K-12), school administrators, paraprofessionals, teacher’s aides, and other staff who work with students understand the following:

  • How a concussion may affect a student’s learning, emotions, and behavior
  • How to identify and monitor signs and symptoms of concussion
  • How to help students successfully return to school and recover from a concussion.

School Concussion Signs and Symptoms Checklist – Use this checklist to monitor students who come to your office with a head injury. Students should be monitored for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Teachers, Counselors, and School Professionals – This website contains downloadable information in English and Spanish on Fact Sheet for Teachers, Counselors, and School Professionals, and a Concussion Signs & Symptoms Information Sheet.
